Sandra Brock | Nitsch Engineering, Chief Engineer

Sandy has over 28 years of experience in the civil engineering field. A registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts, a LEED Accredited Professional, and a Certified Floodplain Manager, Sandy has developed an expertise in sustainable site design. Her efforts for various private owners and state agencies in preparing site plans and reports have given her a strong background in land use planning to meet local zoning and planning regulations. Sandy graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. She spent two years designing and constructing rural water supplies in Malawi, Africa for the Peace Corps. She is the co-chair of the Grafton Conservation Commission. Sandy has presented at various industry events on topics such as site development permitting and stormwater management best management practices.

 


Jim Newman | Linnean Solutions, Founder

Jim transforms complex environmental performance information into valuable tools for decision-makers. His experience includes over two decades in strategic planning and operational efficiency management with educational institutions and real estate firms.

As Director of Strategy and Business Development at BuildingGreen, LLC - the ‘go-to’ green building resource for North America – Jim was a driver of green design into the standard practices of design and construction firms. He led the development of the BuildingGreen Suite, through funding from NYSERDA, and a research and writing project to create Green Guideline Specifications, funded by EPA. Jim also led the development of the recently launched LEEDuser information resource.

Jim serves on the Boards of the USGBC Massachusetts Chapter and the Green Resources Institute. He is a regular speaker at numerous conferences and seminars around the US, including SXSW Eco. Jim was educated at Lehigh University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

 


Carolyn Day | Ellenzweig, Architect

Carolyn is an architect with Ellenzweig and prior to that worked at SMMA, where she was instrumental in leading sustainable design strategies and daylighting analysis with the firm. Carolyn has also worked with the Sustainable Leaders of New England, and often serves as a Studio Critic at the BAC and as Sustainable Design Advisor for Thesis Panels each year. A steward for education, Carolyn has presented at ABX and led training seminars for general contractors and trades regarding the incorporation of sustainable design initiatives during construction. Carolyn holds degrees in both mechanical engineering and architecture.
